Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle
The castle that inspired Versailles (6 km)
The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a true gem. Designed by Louis le Vau and surrounded by a garden conceived by Le Nôtre, this château is a model of classical architecture. It is so sumptuous that it made Louis XIV jealous. He therefore had Versailles built to give himself his own château. Set in the heart of its 35-hectare park, Vaux-le-Vicomte remains one of the most beautiful castles in France. Evening tours (on Saturdays from May through September) allow visitors to stroll through the park and the castle, illuminated by candlelight. A truly magical experience!
